Everyone tells you to use retinol. Rather fewer people mention that a lot of skin doesn't tolerate it — that you'll spend three weeks peeling and flushed before you find out whether it suits you.

Copper peptides are the quieter route to the same destination. Slower, considerably gentler, and no adjustment period. If retinol has defeated you once already, start here instead.

What peptides do

Peptides are short chains of amino acids — fragments of the proteins your skin is built from. Copper peptides in particular are long-standing in firming skincare and are associated with supporting the skin's own repair processes.

In practice: skin that looks a bit more resilient and a bit firmer over a couple of months, without the drama.

How to use it

  1. Cleanse, then apply to slightly damp skin
  2. Three or four drops, pressed into face and neck
  3. Moisturiser on top
  4. Morning, night, or both. Consistency matters more than frequency

One technical point worth knowing

Don't layer copper peptides directly with vitamin C or exfoliating acids. They prefer different pH environments and using them together in one routine tends to blunt both. Peptides at night, vitamin C in the morning, and you get the benefit of each.

Peptides layer perfectly happily with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, snail mucin and moisturisers.

Being honest about the timeline

This is the slowest product on our site, and we'd rather say so than have you give up at week three. Nothing visible in the first fortnight. A change in how your skin feels at around a month. Anything visible in the mirror at two to three months of daily use.

If you want fast, this isn't it. If you want something you can use every day for a year without irritation, it is.

Questions we get asked

Peptides or retinol? Retinol has more evidence behind it and works faster. Peptides are gentler and far easier to stick with. If retinol suits you, use it. If it doesn't, this is a genuine alternative rather than a consolation prize.

Can I use it with retinol? Yes, and they complement each other well. Peptides first, retinol after.

Is it safe in pregnancy? Peptides are generally considered a gentler option than retinoids, but please check with your midwife or GP rather than taking our word for it.

Does it pill? Only if you don't let it absorb. Wait thirty seconds before your moisturiser.
