Blackheads, congestion and the odd spot that appears the day before something important. This is the least glamorous corner of skincare and the one people search for most.
Match the tool to the problem
A single spot, right now — hydrocolloid patches. Stick one on before bed and it draws fluid out overnight while stopping you picking at it, which is usually the thing that turns a two-day spot into a two-week mark.
Visible blackheads on the nose and chin — a proper extraction kit. Steel tools do in thirty seconds what squeezing does badly in ten minutes and with far less damage, provided you use them correctly.
Congestion and rough texture generally — a cleansing brush, used daily. This is the preventative option and the one that actually reduces how often you need the tools above.
Enlarged-looking pores — honest answer: pore size is largely genetic and nothing shrinks it permanently. Keeping pores clear makes them less visible, which is a real and worthwhile difference. Anything claiming to "close" your pores is lying.
Extracting without wrecking your skin

Soften first. A warm compress or five minutes after a shower. Never go at cold, dry skin

Clean the tool. Alcohol wipe before and after, every time

Loop, don't dig. Gentle even pressure. If it doesn't come out on the second try, leave it

Never on an inflamed spot. Red and angry means under the surface — you'll only push it deeper and scar

Calm it afterwards. Hypochlorous acid mist, or the CICA cream
Please be careful
If you have active acne rather than occasional blemishes, extraction tools and suction devices can make it worse and leave marks. That's a conversation for a pharmacist or your GP, not a £12.99 tool — and we'd rather say so than sell you something that scars you.
