No batteries, no charging, nothing to break. One cloth that works in both directions — warm to soften and open up before cleansing, cold to calm and tighten afterwards.

It's the least exciting thing we sell and one of the most genuinely useful. Every facialist starts with a warm compress and finishes with a cool one, and this is that, at home, for the price of a coffee and a half.

Warm — before you cleanse

  1. Soak in comfortably hot water and wring it out
  2. Press it over your face for thirty to sixty seconds. Don't rub
  3. Cleanse straight afterwards

Softened skin means your cleanser gets into pores properly and any extraction afterwards is far easier and far less damaging.

Cold — after you cleanse

  1. Soak in cold water, or keep it damp in the fridge
  2. Press over the areas that puff up — under the eyes, along the jaw
  3. Thirty seconds. Then carry on with your routine

Please note the temperature

Comfortably hot, not scalding. Test it on your wrist first. Heat that's genuinely hot on facial skin can aggravate redness and broken capillaries, and if you have rosacea you should skip the warm function entirely and use it cold only.

Hygiene — read this bit

A damp cloth that touches your face is a bacterial problem waiting to happen. Rinse it thoroughly after every use, wring it properly, and hang it somewhere it will actually dry. Machine wash it weekly. A cloth left screwed up damp on the side of the bath is worse for your skin than no cloth at all.

Questions we get asked

How is this better than a flannel? The weave is softer and finer, so it holds heat longer and doesn't abrade. If you already have a soft flannel you're most of the way there — we'd rather tell you that.

Can I use it to remove makeup? Warm, with a cleansing balm, yes — that's a very good use for it.

Does it work in the microwave? Damp, briefly, and test it carefully. Hot water is safer and more predictable.

How long will it last? Months of daily use. Replace it when it stops feeling soft.
