The Ingredient Everyone's Searching For – Hypochlorous Acid Mist

Hypochlorous acid spent decades in wound care before skincare noticed it. It's the thing you reach for when your skin is angry and you don't know why — after the gym, after shaving, after a mask, after a long day in a city.

It does one job. It calms things down. It won't hydrate you, it won't fade anything, and it isn't a moisturiser. But when your face is red and hot and reactive, nothing else on this site works as fast.

When to reach for it

• After the gym — sweat sitting on skin is a common cause of body and jawline breakouts
• After shaving — far kinder than an alcohol aftershave
• After wearing a mask for hours, or a helmet
• When your skin is stinging from something you've applied and you want it settled
• Before makeup, on redness-prone days

How to use it

1. Hold it about 20cm from your face and mist two or three times
2. Let it air dry. Don't wipe it off, don't rinse it
3. Continue with your routine once it's dry

Use it as often as you like. There's no ceiling on this one, and it's safe over makeup.

Storage matters more than usual

Hypochlorous acid degrades with exposure to light and heat — it gradually reverts to salt water. Keep the bottle out of direct sunlight and don't leave it in a hot car. Use it within about twelve months of opening. If it stops having any effect at all, it's likely expired rather than not working.

Questions we get asked

Does it smell? Faintly of a swimming pool for a few seconds, then nothing. That's normal and it's how you know it's active.

Can I use it with retinol, acids or vitamin C? Yes, all of them. It's one of the most compatible things in skincare.

Will it dry me out? No, but it isn't hydrating either. Follow with a moisturiser as usual.

Can I use it on my body? Yes — back, chest and shoulders after exercise is a very good use for it.

Is it safe around the eyes? Close your eyes while misting. It isn't an eye product.

What it isn't

This is a cosmetic product for calming the look of irritated skin. It isn't a treatment for any skin condition. If you have persistent redness, rosacea or dermatitis, this may make the day more comfortable, but it's a conversation for a pharmacist or your GP.
