Keep it in the freezer. Take it out in the morning. Sixty seconds later your face looks like you slept properly, whether or not you did.

Morning puffiness is fluid that settled while you were lying down. Cold constricts the vessels and moves it along, which is why this cheap plastic roller does more for a puffy face than most devices five times the price.

How to use it

  1. Freeze for at least two hours — overnight is easiest
  2. On clean, dry skin, roll from the centre of your face outwards and upwards
  3. Under the eyes, along the jaw, across the cheeks, up the neck
  4. Thirty seconds a side is plenty. Don't hold it still anywhere

Use it before makeup and your base sits better on tightened skin. Use it after a late night and you look considerably more human.

What it does and doesn't do

It de-puffs, calms redness, and tightens the look of your skin for a few hours. It's a morning trick, not a treatment — the effect wears off, which is entirely the point of something you use daily.

It will not shrink pores, remove wrinkles or drain lymph in any lasting way, whatever the internet claims about ice rolling.

Two practical notes

Wash it. It goes on your face and lives in a freezer next to food. Rinse with soapy water and dry before it goes back.

Don't press. Let the weight of the roller do the work. Pressing hard on cold skin achieves nothing except discomfort.

Questions we get asked

How cold is too cold? If it stings or your skin goes white, take it off. Straight from a domestic freezer it's fine for most people.

Can I use it on broken skin or an active flare? No. Wait until things have settled.

Ice roller or gua sha? Ice roller for puffiness, gua sha for sculpting. They do different jobs and work well together — roll first, sculpt second.

Does the liquid inside ever need replacing? No, it's sealed. Just don't pierce it.
