Sonic Silicone Cleansing Brush – Waterproof Deep Pore Cleanser

Your hands are fine at cleansing. They're just not very good at it. Silicone bristles and sonic vibration get into pores and along the hairline in a way fingertips don't, and unlike the old-fashioned bristle brushes, silicone doesn't harbour bacteria or scratch your skin.

How to use it

1. Wet your face and the brush head
2. Apply your usual cleanser to the brush, not your face
3. Switch on and work in small circles — forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, then the jawline and hairline where most people miss
4. Sixty seconds is plenty. Rinse your face, rinse the brush, stand it up to dry

Once a day at most, in the evening. Twice a day is where people run into irritation.

Getting the most out of it

Use it with a gel or foaming cleanser rather than an oil or balm — oils damp down the vibration and you lose the point of it. If you're double cleansing, take makeup off with your balm first, then use this for the second step.

A note if your skin is reactive

Start at every other day for the first fortnight. Sonic cleansing is gentle but it's still more stimulation than your skin is used to, and going in daily from day one is the usual reason people decide a device "doesn't suit them". If you have active acne, rosacea, or eczema on your face, check with a pharmacist or your GP before adding any cleansing device.

Will it help with blackheads? With the look of congestion and the general texture of your skin, yes, over a few weeks. It won't extract a stubborn blackhead — that's what the extraction kit is for.

Can I use it in the shower? Yes, that's the intended use.

How do I clean it? Rinse under the tap after every use, and wipe it with a little soap once a week.

Which colour should I pick? They're identical apart from the colour. Pink, blue and red.
